Using nomogram of the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer system for treatment selection in patients with stage C hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: BackgroundThe nomogram of the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been used for outcome prediction. Patients with BCLC stage C HCC often undergo anti-cancer therapy against current treatment guidelines in real world practice. We aimed to use the nomogram to provide guidance on treatment selection for BCLC stage C patients.MethodsA total of 1317 patients with stage C HCC were retrospectively analyzed and divided into four groups by nomogram points. One-to-one matched pair… Show more

“…Using the nomogram, we can accurately predict the survival of HCC patients. Besides used in HCC, nomogram has been used to predict the survival of papillary thyroid carcinoma, periampullary adenocarcinoma, esophageal Adenocarcinoma, gastric cancer, non-small cell lung cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma 21 26 .…”

“…Previous studies ( 9 , 10 ) have demonstrated that nomogram-based scores can be utilized in risk stratification and to guide individual treatment selection. The nomogram scores were continuous variables and were categorized using restricted cubic splines with 5 knots (at the 5, 27.5, 50, 72.5, and 95th percentiles).…”

“…10,11 Because of its convenience in clinical application, several nomograms have been developed to predict the prognosis in various cancers. [12][13][14][15][16] A nomogram can provide an individualized, evidence-based, highly accurate risk estimation. With the help of nomogram, physicians can accurately estimate the risk of a specific event at an individual level which is beneficial in clinical decision-making.…”
