Abstract:The O + H 2 reaction is a particular example to alert the importance of a clear definition of the quantum state of an atom when referring to a chemical reaction. In its ground state, O ( 3 P), the oxygen atom reacts with H 2 through an energy barrier with small rate constant. In contrast, when the oxygen atom is in its first excited state, O ( 1 D), the reaction O + H 2 occurs without energy barrier and the rate constant is seven orders of magnitude higher. The dynamic behaviour of this reaction depends also o… Show more
The O(3P)+D2 --> OD(2Pi)+D reaction presents the peculiarity of taking place on two different potential energy surfaces (PESs) of different symmetry, $^3A'$ and $^3A''$, which are degenerate for collinear configurations...
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
