Show more

“…GUEDES et al (2012) obtained similar results. Other authors also attributed such spring water degradation, nearby cities, to clandestine effluent discharges, damaging water multiple uses (VANZELA et al, 2010;POLETO et al, 2010;BERTOSSI et al, 2013a;SANTOS & HERNANDEZ, 2013). Biological contamination of spring water undermines the chances of using it for irrigation purposes, mainly for in natura consumption crops.…”

“…The influence of land use and occupation on the study characteristics was determined using data provided by SANTOS & HERNANDEZ (2013). We performed physical, chemical, and biological analyses, being: temperature (T), total , dissolved and suspended solids (TS, DS and SS), turbidity (TU), pH, calcium (CA), magnesium (MG), total iron (Fe), electrical conductivity (EC), nitrite (NI), nitrate (NA), sulphate (SU), and fecal and total coliforms (FC and TC).…”

“…According to Vitte and Mello (2007, p. 130-131) "erosion problems in Brazil are the result of the combination of a rapid process of land occupation and technification, fragile soils and a climatic regimen that is propitious to the intense occurrence of this phenomenon." Erosive processes have diverse impacts on environmental components, with negative effects on soil fertility (Prasannakumar et al, 2012), the silting of rivers (Demarchi and Zimback, 2014), floods and gullies (Vieira, 2008), overflows (Zhou et al, 2008), changes in the landscape pattern (Shi et al, 2013), changes in water quality (Santos and Hernandez, 2013) and socioeconomic problems (Guerra et al, 2014).…”

“…These hydraulic structures are artificial artworks that alter the flow regime, increasing their susceptibility to silting process. Reducing the velocity of water flow due to the enlargement of the cross section (ALBERTIN et al, 2010;SANTOS & HERNANDEZ 2013) creates favorable conditions for sedimentation of solid material carried by the water course or arising by runoff from the watershed. This behavior, however, is responsible for the significant reduction in sediment load in rivers that have dams (SYVITSKI & KETTNER, 2011).…”
