The aim of this research is to determine the perceptions and attitudes of gifted and talented students towards plants. The study group was consisted of 140 gifted and talented students, who were attending the Science and Art Centre (BILSEM) in the Marmara region during the autumn semester of the 2015–2016 academic year. The study group was determined through the convenience sampling method. Relational model (one of the descriptive models) and phenomenological research design were implemented in line with the purpose of the study. Quantitative data were obtained using the ‘Plant Attitude Questionnaire’ and qualitative data were acquired with survey form. Quantitative data were subjected to descriptive statistics, independent t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) using the SPSS 20 software program. Similarly, the qualitative data were subjected to content analysis. According to the results of the study, it was determined that, for the concept of ‘plant’, the gifted and talented students mostly mentioned human, life, water, breath, lung, air, oxygen, and sun metaphors. The metaphors of the students were categorized as ‘benefit’, ‘characteristic’, ‘environment’, and ‘negative thinking’. It was determined that the general attitudes of the gifted and talented students towards the plants were at a good level. It was also specified that the students’ interests towards the plants, the importance they gave to them and their attitudes to their daily use were also at a good level, but their attitudes towards the city trees were at a low level. It is understood that certain variables such as gender, grade, and duration of attendance at BILSEM did not have a statistically significant effect on general plant attitudes of gifted and talented students.

"Abstract: The aim of this study was to examine the awareness levels of the gifted students and normally developing peers related to the environmental education concepts. In line with this purpose, the survey design, which is one of quantitative research methods, was used in the study. 209 gifted students receiving education in a Science and Art Center in the Eastern Anatolia and 250 secondary school students receiving education in the public schools during the fall term of the 2019-2020 school year, participated in the study. In the study, the Environmental Education Concepts Awareness Scale was used as data collection tool. Necessary validity and reliability studies were conducted for the scale used. The independent samples t-test and ANOVA were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the study it was determined that the gifted students had higher awareness scores related to environmental education concepts, compared to their normally developing peers. In addition, while the environmental education concepts awareness scores of the gifted students did not differ significantly according to gender, age range and class level, there was a significant difference in all variables examined in the normal-development group. Amaç: Bu çalışma, toplumda yaşayan yetişkin bireylerin çevre ilişkin tutumlarını belirlemek ve geri dönüşüm niyetine ilişkin toplumsal kurallar ile ilişkisini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Kesitsel, tanımlayıcı nitelikte planlanan bu çalışma, Eylül 2020- Ocak 2021 tarihleri arasında Bartın İlinde yürütülmüştür. Çalışmaya 18 yaş ve üzeri olan ve çalışmaya katılmaya istekli bireyler alınmıştır. Çalışma verilerini toplamak amacıyla bireylerin yaş, cinsiyet, eğitim durumu sosyo-demografik özelliklerini içeren anket formu, Geri Dönüşüm Niyetine İlişkin Toplumsal Kurallar Ölçeği ve çevre bilgi, duygu ve davranış alt boyutlarından oluşan Çevre Tutum Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan bireylerin %67,3’ü kadın olup yaş ortalaması 26,32 (±9,21)’dir. Katılımcıların %66,7’si evlerine yakın bir konumda geri dönüşüm noktasının olmadığını ve %59,4’ü alışverişe giderken kendi alışveri torbasını götürdüğünü ifade etmişlerdir. Katılımcıların demografik özelliklerine göre yapılan karşılaştırmalı analizlere göre tam zamanlı çalışan bireylerin çalışmayan bireylere göre Çevre Davranış Ölçeği alt boyutu (F = 4,177; P = 0,017) ve Geri Dönüşüm Niyetine İlişkin Toplumsal Kurallar Anketinden (KW = 6,476; P = 0,039) aldıkları puanlar istatistiksel olarak daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Değişkenler arasındaki ilişki incelendiğinde çevreye karşı tutum ile geri dönüşüm niyetine ilişkin toplumsal kurallar arasında güçlü bir ilişki olduğu görülmüştür (r = 0,508; p < 0,01). Sonuç ve Öneriler: Çalışmadan elde edilen bulguların toplumun çevreye karşı olumlu tutum geliştirmesine ve geri dönüşüme sağlayacağı katkıyı artırmaya yönelik eğitim ve girişimsel programların planlanmasında kullanılabileceği öngörülmektedir.
