“…On the other hand as the IEMR energy increased this performance increment became ineffective on the l L values of the composites. The insignificantly increment of l L values in high energy region can be attributed to several Compton scatterings beside the increasing interaction character of pair production [14]. The same behaviors of the l L values were also observed at the previous studies [7].…”

“…The attenuation curves show the gamma ray count rate to decrease exponentially with increase in composite thicknesses. Table (2) shows the mass attenuation coefficients values µ/ρ (cm 2 •g -1 ) which are carried out by the experimental evaluation using linear attenuation coefficient µ (cm -1 ) obtained from figure(2) and the two calculation methods for the three energy lines. It is shown that, a reasonable agreement could be observed between the experimentally evaluated and the theoretically computed results.…”

“…By using the experimentally determined and the WinXcom theoretically calculated values of µ/ρ, the effective atomic numbers (Z eff ) and electron number densities (N el ) have been evaluated using equations (6) and (7) respectively and are presented in table (2). It is observed that both experimental and theoretical data are very close and the variation with photon energy is very modest for this narrow photon energy region.…”

“…With judicious choice of heavy mineral or metal fillers, gamma rays and X-rays could be also shielded. Therefore, the hematite mineral (which is well known for its high attenuating properties) was incorporated as an aggregate to obtain epoxy-hematite concretes developed for biological concrete shields as well as for neutrons and gamma rays attenuation [9]. To provide sufficient shielding, effects of irradiation on polymers need to be known; some literature on this subject exists [10][11][12][13][14].…”
