Utilization of Self-Consolidated Green Material for Sustainable Development: An Environment Friendly Waste Materials Application for Circular Economy

Abstract: Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a unique kind of concrete that tends to consolidate in terms of its weight. In this study, the prime target is to investigate the durability properties of SCC developed using eco-friendly economical waste binding materials as partial replacement to costly cement. This circular economy concept will not only help in the development of green concrete but will also help to improve the climatic condition by reducing the use and production of cement. An economical design methodology… Show more

“…The price of Portland cement is relatively higher than other required concrete materials. Therefore, it is necessary to look for potential substitute materials as alternatives that should be environmentally friendly and vastly available at an affordable price [7][8][9][10][11]. Previous researchers have attempted to utilize various waste materials in SCC mixtures that are more environmentally friendly as Supplementary Cement Materials (SCMs).…”

“…The SCMs also affect the mechanical strength due to the filler effect, the pozzolanic reaction, and the dilution effect. These mineral admixtures can come from minerals that require minimal fossil fuels and carbon emissions in the production or even utilize industrial by-product materials [9][10][11] or those derived from plantation, agricultural, or forestry product wastes [12][13][14][15].…”

“…An important subject of scientific research is the type of filler, with parameters such as size, shape and chemical composition emerging as the most critical. A rising number of research teams are trying to use industrial by-products as fillers, aiming to promote sustainability and greener constructions by utilizing materials that would potentially be air or soil pollutants [7,[10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. When it comes to cement plants, especially, thousands of tons of waste material are amassed annually, making the need for their purposeful utilization imperative.…”

“…The utilization of SCM not only lessens the energy consumption and resource depleting procedure but is helpful for the eco-friendly utilization of hazardous solid waste [13]. The intention of a circular economy can be accomplished via the utilization of SCM in concrete production [14,15]. To successfully meet the electricity needs in numerous countries of the world such as Pakistan, coal power plants have been installed.…”
