UV Light Curable Self-Healing Superamphiphobic Coatings by Photopromoted Disulfide Exchange Reaction

Abstract: At present, numerous methods have been developed to prolong the durability of superamphiphobic coatings. These studies mainly focus on the repairing of coating surface morphology and the supplement of low surface energy materials. These self-healing methods are performed on the surface of the coatings, which will not be self-healed when deep damage occurs. To provide a viable strategy to self-heal deep damaged coatings such as tearing and sharp cutting, a series of UV light curable self-healing superamphiphobi… Show more

“…Zhao et al [ 143 ] induced the formation of a disulfide bond between UV-light-curable polyurethane acrylic resins (DSPUA) and showed that deep damage in the cured resin material could be self-healed by UV irradiation ( Figure 9 b). Moreover, the surface of Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles (SMANP) was amended and functionalized by hydrophobic fluorinated alkyl, vinyl, organic silane, and disulfide bonding compounds.…”

“…In addition to dynamic DA/r‐DA chemistry, disulfide chemistry has been explored to fabricate PU nanocomposites physically embedded with nanocomposites. [ 136–138 ] For example, Zheng and coworkers designed polymer‐bounded explosives (PBX) based on PU nanocomposites containing hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane, a commercially available explosive (CL‐20). The self‐healable PU copolymers labeled with disulfide bonds were synthesized by the polyaddition of PCL‐diol with IPDI, followed by BAPSS.…”

“…Nevertheless, there are few studies on the self-healing properties of materials based on disulfide bond exchange reaction, especially on the self-healing kinetics of coatings under Ultra Violet (UV) light [40,41] and heating conditions. Recently, Zhao [42] introduced a disulfide bond between UV-Curable polyurethane acrylic resins, demonstrating that cracks in the cured resin material can be repaired to UV light. First and foremost, UV curable polyurethane acrylic resin (DSPUA) with disulfide bond was prepared.…”
