V-Band Channel Modeling, Throughput Measurements, and Coverage Prediction for Indoor Residential Environments

Abstract: With the increased resolution and frame rates of video recordings, in combination with the current evolution towards video-on-demand streaming services and the user expecting ubiquitous wireless connectivity, it is necessary to design wireless communication systems that allow high-rate data transfer. The large bandwidths that are available in the mmWave frequency band allow such high data rates. In this paper, we provide an experimental and simulated indoor residential radio channel model at V-band frequencies… Show more

“…The same channel sounding platform is used to characterize the unmanned aerial vehicle to ground wireless communication channel at 60 GHz, resulting in a PL model with quantification of beam misalignment (Garcia Sanchez et al., 2020). Furthermore, the channel sounder is used for indoor PL and network performance measurements (De Beelde, Almarcha, et al., 2022; De Beelde, Tanghe, et al., 2021) and outdoor measurements (Aslam et al., 2020; Du et al., 2022; Sanchez & Chowdhury, 2020; Tariq et al., 2020).…”

“…Throughput measurements for indoor scenarios using IEEE Std. 802.11ad transceivers are presented in Hirata and Murase (2020), Nino et al (2021), and Saha et al (2015), and network performance measurements, that is, throughput and packet error rate, are compared to a network performance prediction tool in De Beelde, Almarcha, et al (2022) for a residential environment. The narrow beamwidth of the antenna systems used in actual 60 GHz communication systems results in a low angular spread, even for the metallic hull of a vessel , but reflections enable wireless communication in non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) scenarios (De Beelde, Lopéz, et al, 2021).…”

“…The scattering coefficient is a ratio of the sound energy scattered in a non-specular manner to the total reflected sound energy. The sound scattering coefficient is measured as the amount of sound scattered from a particular direction or distribution De Beelde, 2022;Zhu, 2020). There is no direct relationship between the scattering coefficient and the diffusion coefficient.…”

“…Diffusion is the process in which acoustic energy comes into contact with a solid irregular shape with a large surface area and spreads out in many directions. Measures such as diffusers will help reduce acoustic energy (Arenas, 2010;De Beelde, 2022;Zhu, 2020).…”
