Validating the Impact of Water Potential and Temperature on Seed Germination of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) via Hydrothermal Time Model

Abstract: Wheat is the most extensively cultivated crop and occupies a central place in human nutrition providing 20% of the daily food calories. This study was conducted to find both T and ψ effects on wheat germination and the cardinal Ts value; a lab experiment was accomplished using HTT models. Cultivars were germinated under different accelerated aging periods (AAP, 0, 24, 48, and 72 h) at each of the following constant Ts of 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 °C at each of the ψs of 0, −0.05, −0.1, −0.15, and −0.2 MPa. “…With the advancement of scientific knowledge, many new techniques are being introduced in the field to help plants tolerate conditions of abiotic stress. Remediation is necessary to alleviate the negative effects caused by the pollutants in ecosystems (Rehman et al, 2019;Hashem et al, 2020;Saleem et al, 2020d;Saeed et al, 2022;Hussain S. Q. et al, 2022). Researchers have continued to develop effective methods of remediation to treat contaminated lands (Afzal et al, 2020;Imran et al, 2020;Saleem et al, 2020c).…”

“…Figures 4-6 show that the application of TU-ANPs significantly stabilize germination indices by not only providing minerals source of calcium, phosphorus and nitrogen, but also by triggering biosynthetic pathways associated with sugar phosphates, nucleotides, NADH, amino acids and growth hormones, such as IAA. Meanwhile, thiourea is also known for breaking environmentally imposed seeds, as well as innate seeds and innate bud dormancy, hence resulting in the early onset of seed germination and the establishment of seedling growth [19,20].…”

“…Excessive fertilizer and pesticide use, livestock farming, nitrous oxide emissions, and fossil fuel combustion are the other contributors to climate change. The development of plants is affected by different climatic factors, such as CO 2 levels in the atmosphere, temperature (Saeed et al, 2022), drought (Wahab et al, 2022), salinity (Mehmood et al, 2021a;Hussain et al, 2022), heavy metals (Ma et al, 2022b;Nawaz et al, 2022), and rainfall patterns. However, the impact of climate change on the variety of microfauna is also worthy of attention because microorganisms are also influenced by these changes as they perform carbon and nutrient cycling.…”
