Validation of the EuroQol questionnaire in cardiac rehabilitation

Abstract: Objective: To analyse the psychometric properties of the EuroQol questionnaire (EQ-5D) applied to patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Setting: Rehabilitation hospital. Patients and design: 106 consecutive patients with ACS (51% myocardial infarction, 42% coronary artery bypass grafting, 7% angina) completed the EQ-5D, the 36 item short form health survey (SF-36), and the MacNew questionnaire at admission, at discharge, and three months after inpatient cardiac rehabilitation. Acceptance, validity, rel… Show more

“…The HRQOL profile was assessed with the European Quality of Life scale 5D (EQ-5D) [14][15][16][17]. It consists of 2 components: an EQ-5D descriptive system and an EQ-5D visual analog scale (EQ-5D VAS).…”

“…On this 14-item scale, 7 relate to anxiety and 7 to depression, with responses scored 0-3 (3 indicating higher symptom frequencies). The score for each subscale (anxiety and depression) ranged 0-21, with scores categorized as follows: normal (0-7), mild (8-10), moderate (11)(12)(13)(14), and severe (15)(16)(17)(18)(19)(20)(21).…”

“…Some severe health states are given negative scores, meaning that from a social perspective, being in these states is regarded as worse than death. The validity and reliability of this instrument has been indicated previously [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18].…”

“…Based on the previous report (16), the correlation coefficient between the EQ-5D and MacNew scale was reported as 0.52. We based on this coefficient with an alternative minimum correlation coefficient of 0.35 with an alpha error of 5% and power of 95%.…”

“…The significant correlation coefficients (ranging from 0.557 to 0.721) of EQ-5D index scores with MacNew subscales show the validity of the Turkish version of the EQ-5D scale in patients with ACS. In the work of Schweikert et al (16), correlation coefficients of EQ-5D with MacNew subscales ranging from 0.527 to 0.798 in patients with ACS were reported. Positive correlations show that the EQ-5D index score increases while the MacNew subscale scores increase.…”
