“…Additionally, each participant's most recent Minimum Data Set (MDS version 2.0) completed by LTC staff was retrieved to calculate MDS-derived scale scores for cognitive and physical functioning [22][23][24] and history of weight loss (section K, item 3a, ≥5 % in the last 30 days or 10 % in the last 180 days). The MDS-derived Cognitive Performance Scale (CPS) score ranges from 0 (cognitively intact) to 6 (severely impaired) [22]. The MDSderived Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scale score ranges from 0 (rated by staff as independent in each of seven areas) to 28 (rated by staff as completely dependent in all areas) [23].…”

“…Number of prescribed medications and new medications were derived by the assessors and included as summary items as part of the RAI 2.0. Our analyses also included four health index measures previously developed and validated for use with the RAI 2.0 tool: (1) the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) self-performance hierarchy scale (range 0-6) [26]; (2) the Changes in Health, End-stage disease and Signs and Symptoms (CHESS) score (range 0-5) [27]; (3) the Cognitive Performance Scale (CPS) score (range 0-6) [28,29]; and (4) the Depression Rating Scale (DRS; range 0-14) [30]. Higher scores are all indicative of more severe impairment.…”

“…In the current analysis, the usual cutoff of 2 points or more was used to define the presence of cognitive impairment. 12 On the other hand, it aims to map fluctuations and severity of cognitive (dys) functioning by calculating scores ranging from 0 to 6, with higher scores indicating higher cognitive impairment. 11 In a 6-hour training program, the standardized scoring criteria of the interRAI AC manual 23 and the use of the MMSE were explained to four assessors, and fictive cases were discussed.…”
