Validation of the Parkinson's Disease‐Cognitive Rating Scale Applying the Movement Disorder Society Task Force Criteria for Dementia Associated with Parkinson's Disease

Abstract: Background: The authors studied the measurement properties of the Parkinson's DiseaseCognitive Rating Scale (PD-CRS) compared with Movement Disorders Society Task Force (MDS-TF) criteria for the diagnosis of dementia in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods: The sample consisted of 223 patients who were diagnosed in accordance with the United Kingdom Parkinson's Disease Society Brain Bank who were assessed with both the MDS-TF and the PD-CRS criteria (in addition to other instruments) without the assessor… Show more

“…The scale has been shown to be sensitive to change, with a decrease from 10 to 13 points in the total score indicative of a clinically significant change . A cutoff score of ≤81 points yielded a sensitivity of 79% and specificity of 80% for PD‐MCI compared with healthy controls, and cutoffs of both ≤62 and ≤64 points have sensitivity and specificity of ≥94% for PD‐D compared with healthy controls …”

“…Most of the studies did not report the method used to sample patients for inclusion [ 29 , 57 , 58 , 60 , 61 , 62 ]. A consecutive sample of PD patients was recruited in two studies [ 56 , 59 ]. Furthermore, three studies included only non-demented patients [ 58 , 60 , 61 ], and, therefore, the data obtained cannot be generalized.…”

“…The time period between the administration of PD-CRS and the reference standard was adequate in most studies [ 29 , 56 , 57 , 58 , 60 , 62 ], with a low risk of bias. Only two studies did not report the exact interval between tests [ 59 , 61 ]. Ideally, the index test and the reference standard were performed during the same study visit or in a short time interval.…”
