This paper aims to formulate a scheme of productive waqf (Islamic endowment) forests that can support the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Previous studies mostly concentrated on the potential of waqf for forest preservation, while detailed discussion about how to establish a waqf forest to support the SDGs are still scarce. The present study was conducted using a literature study method and interpretative analysis. A productive waqf forest means that some of the tangible benefits of the waqf forest should be used for the waqf development, managed by the nazir, and the rest of the benefits, tangible and intangible, are used for the mauquf’alaihi. The productive waqf forest scheme also supports some main points of SDGs, such as in reducing poverty and hunger, maintaining climate, health, biodiversity, and water supply, even economic growth, and sustainable consumption and production. This research aims to open the door wider for more researchers to explore the potential of waqf to finance environment and forestry sectors. It also gives insights into how waqf as one of the main instruments in Islamic social finance can play a role in forest preservation.
