The notion of digital transformation encompasses the adoption and integration of a variety of new information and communication technologies for the development of more efficient, flexible, agile, and sustainable solutions for industrial systems. Besides technology, this process also involves new organizational forms and leads to new business models. As such, this work addresses the contribution of collaborative networks to such a transformation. An analysis of the collaborative aspects required in the various dimensions of the 4th industrial revolution is conducted based on a literature survey and experiences gained from several research projects. A mapping between the identified collaboration needs and research results that can be adopted from the collaborative networks area is presented. Furthermore, several new research challenges are identified and briefly characterized. Current approaches for development of collaborative business process automation, when requiring the participation of multiple stakeholders, lack proper formalization in terms of the required informatics systems landscape. Existing solutions depend on specific technology strategies and do not offer a suitable model for the fast-growing collaborative services. In this paper, we present the concept of an open informatics system of systems (ISoS), as a holistic framework that can be applied to a European wide payment system for collaborative multimodal mobility services. To illustrate how the ISoS framework could be applied in practice, we consider the payment service to support public transports, motorway and bridges tolling, payment in parking lots, bicycle renting and payment in a fueling station, all under a single contract. While each participating organization (any infrastructure operator) is free to adopt any applicable technology, the proposed ECoNet collaboration infrastructure is aimed to support a multi-supplier (open) informatics system technology landscape. Based on results from previous research, the paper introduces a strategy to allow effective and reliable EU wide collaborative mobility services.

The Collaborative Networks (CN) discipline has been largely studied in last decades, addressing different problems and proposing solutions for the robust establishment of collaborative processes, within the enterprises willing to collaborate. The main aim of CN research is, therefore, to generate approaches that enable creating effective relationships in the long term, to achieve stable and agile alliances. The concept of alignment among the CN partners has been considered since the beginning of CN research. Nevertheless, novel perspectives of study in CN, such as the consideration of collaborative emotional states, within the CN, have been introduced in recent years. This paper connects the research area of strategies alignment and the CN emotion models. Accordingly, a modelling framework to assess strategies alignment considering the emotional environment within the CN is proposed. The modelling framework allows representing how the enterprises emotions affect in the selection and alignment of formulated enterprises' strategies.
