Vapor−Liquid Equilibrium in 2-Ethoxyethanol + Methanol at 313.15 to 333.15 K

Abstract: The vapor−liquid equilibrium (VLE) isotherms were directly determined by the ebulliometric method for the system 2-ethoxyethanol + methanol. The experimental results were correlated by an equation of state that is capable of reproducing VLE for associating and reacting systems with an accuracy similar to the experiment uncertainty over a reasonable range of pressure and temperature. Such correlations are hard to obtain with equations representing activity coefficients at specific particular isotherms.

“…Ebulliometric VLE measurements of mixtures containing 2ethoxyethanol (including the pure components) were performed by Malanowski and coworkers. [51][52][53]56 This data is quite consistent with our static measurements. Otherwise, only vapor pressure data with unreasonable trends from the same studies that were excluded in the case of 2methoxyethanol and single-point data from VLE studies were found in the literature.…”

“…With the exception of 2-ethoxyethanol, the pure component vapor pressures reported here are within 0.5% of values smoothed from the literature data as shown in Table . Vapor pressures of 2-ethoxyethanol at 308.15 and 313.15 K were 1.5% lower and 2.4% higher, respectively, than literature values.…”

“…The uncertainties in the vapor pressure of 2-ethoxyethanol at 313.15 K (1.6% for the present study and estimated by us as 0.7% for the work of Antosik et al 10 ) sum to 2.3%, which is comparable to the 2.4% difference between the values given in Table 1.…”
