Vapor pressures and boiling points of some paraffin, alkylcyclopentane, alkylcyclohexane, and alkylbenzene hydrocarbons

Abstract: Measurements of vapor pressures and boiling points, over the range 47 to 780 millimeters of mercury and above ah>out 12° C, were made on 52 purified hydrocarbons. The apparatus consisted of an electricaUy heated boiler, a vapor space with a vertical reentrant tube containing a platinum thermometer having a resistance of 25 ohms, and a condenser. Measurements of the temperature of the liquid-vapor equilibrium were made at 20 fixed pressures maintained automatically. The values of the fixed pressures were determ… Show more

“…(a) 2,3,4-Trimethylpentane and 2,3,3-trimethylpentane, with normal boiling points of 113.467° and 114.760° C, a difference of 1.293° C [7]; (b) 2,5-Dimethylhexane and 2,4.-dimethylhexane, with normal boiling points of 109.103° and 109.429° C, a difference of 0.326° C [7]. From the data on vapor pressures recently reported on these compounds [7], and making the assumption of ideality as previously done above, the values of the constants of eq 3 applicable to these foregoing two test mixtures become as follows: …”

“…HE, and GE data of the mixtures of nitromethane with benzene, toluene, binary mixtures of nitromethane with aromatic hy-o-xylene, p-xylene, and m-xylene at 303. 15 Excess volumes of mixing were measured as a function of composition using the direct dilatometric method (1 1). The temperature of the thermostatic bath was controlled to k0.01 K. The uncertainty in experimental VE values is about 0.5%.…”
