Variability of Microsatellites in Sheep Breeds Raced in Russia

Abstract: A b s t r a c tAt the current stage of biological development is impossible to establish conservation programs and to monitor genetic resources of sheep without a preliminary study by DNA markers. The Russian sheep breeding is represented by wide variety of breeds, including all productivity and wool types. However, until recently only some sheep breeds, which belong to the same breeding zone or productivity type, were investigated by DNA markers including microsatellites. We studied 25 Russian sheep breeds (n… Show more

“…During the last decade, detailed studies of the biodiversity and admixture levels in sheep breeds from Asia, Africa, America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand were performed using SNPs [ 19 23 ]. To date, only a few Russian sheep breeds have been genotyped using the OvineSNP50K BeadChip [ 24 ], whereas most of them have been analyzed using mitochondrial [ 25 ] and microsatellite markers exclusively [ 26 28 ].…”

“…We also conducted a comparative analysis of N a and H e parameters for KMM and fine-wool sheep breeds bred in Kazakhstan (Dossybayev et al, 2019), Russia (Deniskova et al, 2016), Pakistan (Ahmed et al, 2014) and Poland (Szumiec et al, 2018) (Table 4).…”
