Variation and removal efficiency of assimilable organic carbon (AOC) in an advanced water treatment system

Abstract: This study investigates the microorganism growth indicator and determines the assimilable organic carbon (AOC) content at the Cheng-Ching Lake Advanced Water Treatment Plant (CCLAWTP) in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Notably, AOC is associated with the biological stability within the water distribution network and has garnered considerable attention in the environmental engineering field in recent years. Water samples were collected from the effluent of each unit in CCLAWTP once monthly during December 2008 to November 2… Show more

“…In addition, petroleum substances that might leak from an underground shearer will not readily dissolve in water due to their small polarity. When an emulsi er with a polar micelle hydraulic support is added to the in uent, the solute molecules are wrapped and positioned in a lipophilic core of the micelle because the solute molecules have an a nity for the nonpolar tail of the normal micelle phase; then, a stable boundary lm is formed on the oil-water interface (Lou et al 2011). Conventional physical methods cannot break the boundary membrane between oil and water, resulting in the continuous accumulation of oil molecules throughout the life cycle of the mine water (Soonglerdsongpha et al 2011).…”
