Abstract: Bipolar affective disorders are frequent and have severe consequences. The German S3 guidelines outline the principles of evidence-based treatment of this condition. Based on a partnership with service users and their families accessibility to illness-specific therapy including psychotherapy/psychoeducation, self-help groups for family members and for users are important.
