Show more

“…DFOS can be glued either directly on the prepared concrete surface or along a milled groove (near-to-surface installation). 28,29,55,56 It must be considered that the choice of adhesive further influences the strain transfer. 49,[57][58][59] adhesive, epoxy resin, silicone, urethane, and injection mortar.…”

“…Experimental investigations on a notched, prestressed beam on the influence of the DFOS type and the application technique were also carried out by Vorwagner et al. 56 Good results were obtained with a "tight buffered" DFOS bonded directly to the concrete surface with an epoxy-based anchor adhesive. Strains could be measured reliably even up to crack widths of 2.6 mm.…”

“…It means that data can be provided in time, load, and geometrical domains, what was not technically feasible before with conventional strain gauges or discrete types of optical sensors (mainly Fiber Bragg Gratings [FBG]). Detailed analyses of the process of forming and development of cracks, 7–9 shrinkage and expansion measurements 10,11 and investigations of bond, flexural, and tensile behavior 12–14 as well as tension stiffening phenomenon 10 are possible. Furthermore, because of their geometry, optical sensors can be also glued on the textile of fiber‐reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement or embroidered directly during production 15–17 .…”
