Vesicular gold assemblies based on host–guest inclusion and its controllable release of doxorubicin

Abstract: We have developed a kind of gold nanoparticle (AuNP) in which polyethylene glycol (PEG) and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) are attached on the surface of a gold nanocrystal through the host-guest inclusion between adamantane groups (ADA) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). The resulting AuNPs become amphiphilic in water above body temperature and self-assemble into vesicles. It is found that these vesicles can load doxorubicin (Dox) effectively. “…Per-6-thio-β-cyclodextrin (SH-β-CD) was synthesized firstly according to the literature [26], then 20 mL of HAuCl4 (0.6 mM) in DMSO:H2O (v/v=4:1) was quickly mixed with 16 mL of DMSO containing 8.0 mg SH-β-CD and 60.4 mg NaBH4, the mixed solution was stirred uniformly at room temperature for at least 24 h.
