Vibration-resistant phase retrieval method with contrast compensation for phase-shifting interferometry

Abstract: Vibration hinders the application of phase-shifting interferometry (PSI) to on-machine test and large-aperture mirror measurement. The investigation of PSI fringe disturbed by vibration indicates that, besides tilt-shifting error, inter- and intra-frame contrast variation is significant. The contrast variation is another dominant error source in phase retrieval of PSI. An inter- and intra-frame contrast compensation method is proposed here to retrieve wavefront phase from interferograms subjected to vibration.… Show more

“…Wang et al [32] proposed an iterative algorithm that converges rapidly and accurately, but only interferograms with a constant background and contrast are compatible. Liu et al energetically developed several improved vibration-resistant phase retrieval methods to reduce the phase error due to background and contrast (amplitude) variation [33][34][35]. In these iteration methods, generally, the convergence iteration is needed more than four to ten times to obtain an accurate solution.…”

“…Based on the relationship that a fringe corresponds to 2π phase, general phase retrieval algorithms evaluate the phase shift by analysing interference fringes and then calculate the wavefront phase with least-squares (LS) method. Among these general phase retrieval algorithms, iterative algorithms [10][11][12][13][14] exhibit good performance and are appealing, because there is no restriction on the measured surfaces and less approximation in the calculation. Iterative algorithms treat the wavefront phase as an unknown, construct algebraic equations with collected phase-shifting interferograms and solve equations with iteration.…”
