Vibrations of simplified rudder induced by propeller wake

Abstract: Severe wake-structure interaction induces intense vibrations and noises. In this study, the rudder is simplified into a plate fixed at two ends. The vibrations of the plate operating in the propeller wake are analyzed. Detached eddy simulation is employed to simulate the turbulence in the flow field and propeller wake. The structural deformation equation is solved via the finite volume method. The pressure fluctuations in the propeller wake and the vibrations on the plate are investigated. The results show tha… Show more

“…This visualization reveals the evolution of the propeller wake vortex structures from their genesis in the near field to their dispersion in the far field. The wake vortex system is primarily composed of four robust tip vortices along with a central hub vortex [57][58][59][60][61][62]. In the near field, the tip vortex exhibits a well-ordered topological structure marked by strong coherence.…”

“…17 In addition, some of the research works are carried out to study the wake instability of a propeller, 18,19 a submarine, 20 and the wake-structure interaction between the propeller and rudder. [21][22][23] To the authors' best knowledge, the study of PJP with a different number of blades has not been carried out.…”
