The application of circular economy (CE) principles in reverse logistics (RL) processes involves the recovery, recycling, reuse and remanufacturing of materials that return from the consumer to the producer. This literature review assesses whether the manufacturing sector, technology, supply chain (SC) structure, customers’ preferences, and policy makers influence the diffusion of circular RL, highlighting the strategies adopted by companies. The results show different levels of circular RL implementation in different industries. Technology is an enabler but also an obstacle, as it requires large financial resources and a skilled workforce. The involvement of all SC stakeholders proves to be a critical factor in the successful implementation of circular RL, although the likelihood of success depends significantly on producers being the initiators. Policymakers also play a key role in guiding business investment in circular RL projects. This article summarizes the literature on CE and RL on analytical dimensions rarely studied together, providing researchers, companies and public decision makers with an overview of the most critical factors influencing the management of RL within circular processes. Controversial findings, open questions, and promising lines of future research are also outlined.

To address the issue of supplier evaluation and selection in the current intelligent manufacturing industry, a supplier intelligent evaluation and selection model combining bilevel programming is proposed. Firstly, based on existing research results and the current situation of the manufacturing market, a manufacturing supplier evaluation index system is constructed, and the principal component analysis method is used to simplify it; Then, the simplified indicator system is input into the back propagation neural network to build a supplier intelligent evaluation model and achieve supplier intelligent evaluation; A mathematical model for supplier selection problem is constructed based on bilevel programming, and an optimized sparrow search algorithm is put forward to solve it. A supplier intelligent selection model is constructed to achieve intelligent supplier selection. The lab findings denote that the F1 value of the supplier intelligent evaluation model is 0.953, the accuracy is 0.985, the area under the curve is 0.962, and the error of the output comprehensive evaluation value is 0.003; The output accuracy of the supplier intelligent selection model is 0.8. The above results indicate that the model raised in the article has good application effects in supplier evaluation and selection, and has a certain promoting effect on the development of the intelligent manufacturing industry.

PurposeThis study aims to examine how and when digital platform capabilities drive technological innovation from a strategic information perspective, regarding information flow and information quality as mediators and business intelligence analytics as a moderator.Design/methodology/approachThis study engaged corporate executives in surveys and obtained 182 firm data and then tested the hypotheses using linear regression models and the robustness using the structural equation model.FindingsDigital platform capabilities drive corporate technological innovation through access to strategic information, i.e. strategic information mediates between digital platform capabilities and technological innovation. Business intelligence analytics increases the influence of strategic information on technological innovation.Practical implicationsThis study underlines the importance for companies to construct digital platform capabilities to access strategic information to achieve technological innovation and the role of business intelligence analytics in processing strategic information.Originality/valueThis study finds a new perspective, strategic information, to explain the mechanisms by which digital platform capabilities drive firms’ technological innovation. In addition, the robustness of the resource-based view in understanding digital platform capabilities is stressed.
