Viewpoints AI

Abstract: The Viewpoints AI installation [2,3] attempts to create an interactive movement-based art experience that has almost no predefined instantial content. As opposed to focusing on designer-created content that reflects their specific view of an interactive experience, we have instead created a movement-based play space where interactors can freely dance with a virtual AI-based character named VAI, teaching it as they interact. VAI analyses interactor movements through procedural representations of the Viewpoints … Show more

“…For instance, gospel music uses call-andresponse to nudge democratic audience participation [82], and computational narratives personalize player experiences by iteratively tracking and adapting narrative scheduling to player pacing [6]. Similar research has produced a virtual dance partner that improvises dance moves based on audience actions [54], and a narrative agent that responds to audience gestures with dialogue [84].…”

“…Viewpoints AI (VAI) is a co-creative dance partner that improvises with users in real time as they dance in front of a virtual character projected on a large display screen [22]. Using a Kinect, VAI analyzes the dance gestures of users and selects a complimentary dance move for the virtual character to perform.…”
