“…Grajevskij andKonstantinovd (1960, 1961) carried out extensive studies on the effect of protective substances on oxygen-tension in the tissues of laboratory animals. Yet little attention has so far been paid to the changes of oxygentension in the tissues of mammals after application of 2,4 dinitrophenol (DNP), the protective effect of which was referred to by Bonet-Maury and Patty (1954), Mayer andPatt (1953), andPraslicka, Hill andNovak (1962), Van den Brenk and Jamieson (1962). Praslicka et al proved that the protective effect of DNP manifested itself at a time when the amount of oxygen consumed by mammals was higher, and the assumption was expressed that the protective effect of DNP was conditioned by the occurrence of relative hypoxia in the tissues.…”
