“…Eventually, the durable resistance of ND B112 was overcome by the emergence of a new pathotype identified by Leng et al (2016) and designated pathotype 7. The occurrence of spot blotch pathotypes has been reported in several studies from different regions of the world (Arabi & Jawhar, 2002Ghazvini & Tekauz, 2007;Meldrum et al, 2004). Breeding for resistance is an effective mean for controlling the disease and so far three major resistance loci have been mapped, namely Rcs 6/Scs 6, Rbs 7 and Rcs 5 located on chromosomes 1H, 6H and 7H, respectively (Drader et al, 2009;Leng et al, 2018;Wang et al, 2019).…”

“…sorokiniana is a major constraint of wheat and barley in a vast region including South Asia where the hot, humid environment is conducive for spot blotch development (Joshi and Chand 2002;Joshi et al 2004Joshi et al , 2007. The presence of moderate or weaker isolates could conceivably interfere with identification of genotypes that are highly resistant or immune to B. sorokiniana (Arabi and Jawhar 2002). Therefore, use of the most aggressive isolates of pathogen populations, individually or in a mixture and under the proper environment, is necessary to identify the desired levels of resistance.…”

“…In contrast to Abang et al (2006) study, Arabi et al (2008 tested 63 isolates of R. secalis on Igri and 5 other cultivars and reported that Igri which carry BRR4 resistance gene showed resistant reaction to the majority of 46 isolates. Moreover, in Syria, Arabi et al (2009) assessed 115 isolates of scald against 10 barley differential genotypes. They found Igri and Tadmor cultivars as the most resistant genotypes.…”
