Virus-bacteria diagnostic test (vbd-test) in identifying biology teacher’s misconception

Abstract: Virus-Bacteria Diagnostic Test (VBD-Test) is three-tier diagnostic instrument for identification virus and bacteria topics. The purpose of this study was to determine the empirical validity of the VBD-Test and identify misconceptions of virus and bacteria topics in biology teachers in Malang using VBD-Test. The development research model used was the Treagust development model, namely (1) Defining content, (2) Obtaining information, and (3) Developing a diagnostic test. The empirical validity on the VBD-Test w… Show more

“…At the stage of analysis, students found fundamental misconceptions about the definition of the immune system. Misconceptions that occur in students can result in students' cognitive development being constrained in studying biology further [80], [81]. A trial to larger student group should be done to find out the effectiveness of the DFI learning media.…”

“…Students' misconception will disturb their acquisition of new knowledge (Fariyani, Rusilowati,&Sugianto, 2015). Students' misconception also related to a mismatch in the concept (Yunanda, Susilo, & Ghofur, 2019;Zulfia, Susilo, & Listyorini, 2019). The low scientific ability is likely related to misconception due to five factors, namely: students, teachers, textbooks, context, and teaching method (Suparno, 2005).…”

“…Misconceptions that occur in students are often found in biology learning [6], [22]- [26]. The concept of ecosystem is a biological concept in which the most misconceptions are found [7], [23], [27].…”

“…The novelty of this research is to produce an evaluation instrument that has been linked to material content at a predetermined formal school level which also has a diagnostic function of misconceptions. The developed EMD-Test diagnostic test instrument is considered to be more accurate and efficient in identifying misconceptions because it is presented digitally via google forms and presented in the form of a three-tier test with the number of options at each level that is adjusted to the misconceptions found in the literature [3], [8], [18], [21], [26], [40], [42], [43]. In addition, the items at the second level are also equipped with options for filling in other misconceptions that students have that have not been successfully revealed in the literature.…”
