Virus Nature of Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis in Trout

Abstract: it can be shown that TDA potentiates depressor response to isoproterenol(2).The experiments described herein were undertaken to( examine the possibility of chemical inactivation of 5-HT by reaction with TDA. Inactivation has been demonstrated but evidence regarding mechanism is merely circumstantial. TDA does react with 5-HT in vitro and the reactioin product in large doses has no measurable effect on blood pressure. It also blocks the effects of 5-HT on blood pressure in the rabbit but this may be a consequen… Show more

“…MABV is the causative agent of ascites and deformity in fish and causes serious losses to the fish-farming industry in Japan in yellowtail fry and fingerling Seriola quinqueradiata (Sorimachi & Hara, 1985;Nakajima et al, 1993;Nakajima & Sorimachi, 1994). Infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) is the type species of the genus Aquabirnavirus and was first reported as a pathogenic virus of fish (Wolf et al, 1960). IPNV is an important pathogen associated with an acute and contagious disease in salmonids (Wolf, 1988).…”

“…Infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) is a wellknown aquatic birnavirus and was the first confirmed to be pathogenic to salmonid fishes (Wolf et al 1960). Subsequently, birnaviruses were found all over the world in other fishes such as eels, yellowtail, turbot, goby, and shellfishes (Sano 1976, Adair & Ferguson 1981, Hudson et al 1981, Sorimachi & Egusa 1982, Hedrick et al 1985, 1986, Sorimach & Hara 1985, Lo et al 1988, Wattanavijan et al 1988, Lipipun et al 1989, Nova et al 1993, Suzuki et al 1998a.…”

“…Infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN) is a highly contagious viral disease that causes high mortality among young salmonid fishes and has spread to various countries (Wolf et al, 1960;Sano, 1971), which is a matter of concern to hatcheries. IPN virus (IPNV) is a prototype of the Birnaviridae, which are unenveloped, icosahedral animal viruses with a diameter of approximately 60 nm and bisegmented double-stranded RNA genomes (Dobos et al, 1979;Brown, 1986).…”
