“…With 15 articles mentioning the term Islamophobia, only the journal Sociologie, created in 2010, has opened a space for discussion by publishing in 2014 the first special issue on Islamophobia in a French generalist journal. It includes articles on the state of the art and several case studies (Amiraux, 2014;Asal, 2014b;Beaugé and Hajjat, 2014;Cousin and Vitale, 2014;Mohammed, 2014). In other words, the debate has essentially taken place outside the legitimate spaces of sociological discussion, in specialized journals (Figure 2), most often without a rigorous peer review process (Hommes & Migrations, Migrations & Sociétés, Mouvements, Archives des sciences sociales des religions, Confluences Méditerranée), in critical intellectual journals (Monde diplomatique, Vacarme) or conservative journals (Esprit, Études, Le Débat, Commentaire, Cités), academic books in which the scientific approach is secondary (Favret-Saada, 2015; Iribarne, 2019) or the national press (Le Monde, Libération, Le Figaro, etc.…”
