Visible Light Curable Restorative Composites for Dental Applications Based on Epoxy Monomer

Abstract: A cationic photo-curable cycloaliphatic epoxy resin has been investigated as reactive monomer in blue light crosslinking process. We have demonstrated that camphorquinone is able to abstract labile hydrogen from the epoxy monomer, giving rise to the formation of carbon-centered radicals that are oxidized by the onium salt; a complete epoxy group conversion was reached after 50 s of irradiation. The presence of water up to 1 wt% was tolerated without any important detrimental effect on the kinetics of light-cur… Show more

“…2 and Table 4) under a laser diode at 457 nm or very soft halogen lamp. It is usually used in combination with amines [140,141], however, the development of CQ based initiating systems for dental applications remains very important [142,143]. Unlike other parent systems, the CQ/Iod or CQ/Iod/NVK combination is not efficient for the FRPCP of EPOX upon the halogen lamp or the laser diode at 457 nm exposure, but the CQ/Iod/silane works quite well under a Xenon lamp [144].…”

“…Among the various methods applied to graft polymers on various substrate surfaces, photochemicals protocols serve significant advantages due to a wide range of ecological, energetical and financial expectations . These advantages include temporal control, low‐energy requirements, high rates of polymerizations at ambient temperatures without the necessity of using volatile organic solvents giving rise to environmental and health‐care benefits.…”
