Visual results after implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens in high myopes

Abstract: Implantation of a trifocal IOL in highly myopic eyes with low IOL power (0.0 to 10.0 D) provided satisfactory short-term visual and refractive outcomes; however, results were not as good as those obtained in eyes with higher dioptric IOL power.

“…The only downside was the subjective visual acuity regarding nighttime driving due to halos and other optical phenomena [74]. Similar outcomes have been reported in highly myopic patients implanted with the Acrysof ReSTOR SN60D3 (Alcon) [75]. Good visual outcomes for the trifocal Liberty Bi-Flex 677MY (Medicontur Medical Engineering Ltd., Hungary) were published in 2019 by Gyory The visual acuity in all distances for trifocal and panfocal IOLs was shown in 2018 by comparing the trifocal AT LISA (Zeiss, Germany) with the panfocal PanOptix (©Alcon, USA).…”

“…On the contrary, newer lens formulas and adjustments/transformations are now available to reduce postoperative predictive error in high myopes [29,30]. Furthermore, the levels of satisfaction and spectacle independence experienced by high myopes were reasonably high after implantation of multifocal or trifocal intraocular lens [15,31]. Since these outcomes enhance the con dence of high myopes, they are more inclined to schedule cataract surgery at a younger age.…”
