Visualizing Hotspots and Future Trends in Phytomining Research Through Scientometrics

Abstract: Phytomining has attracted widespread attention as a technique for harvesting “bio-ore.” This technology has potential applications in the metal and minerals industry for low-grade metal and mineral mining as well as metal recycling from polluted soil. The hotspots and future trends of this technology deserve in-depth exploration. This paper presents a systematic review of the phytomining research area through the scientometrics method based on the citation data collected from the Web of Science Core Collection… Show more

“…Phytomining uses biometabolism gradients to harvest high metal in high-biomass plants, so-called ‘hyper-accumulators’. 74 A leaching method reported by Chardon et al 75 and the so-called method of Cation and anion exchange membranes (CAEM) 76 could be taken as guidance, using a filter and membranes to create high concentration gradients.…”

“…The notable increase in the frequency of a keyword during a relatively short period of time usually reflects research hotspots, which are paid special attention by the scientific community. We carried out keywords burst detection to identify research hotspots of the SSCM domain using CiteSpace [54]. Table 2 shows 25 keywords with bursts of at least two years.…”

“…Widening the scope from the earlier focus on (hyper-)accumulators to the whole soil-plant agrosystem has been mirrored in the term "agromining" (Nkrumah et al, 2018). "Metal crops", i.e., plant species accumulating heavy metals, precious elements, or REEs, with a high biomass yield, have now become the focus of research (Li et al, 2020).…”
