“…Several therapies are used to treat CME in RP patients and include topical or oral administration of carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, [1][2][3][4] periocular or intravitreal injection of steroid, [5][6][7][8][9] intravitreal injection of bevacizumab, 10 photocoagulation, 11,12 or vitrectomy. 13 Although each of these therapeutic measures provides a benefit for some of the patients, there is little information on the pathophysiology, prevalence, or natural course of CME that is associated with RP. Furthermore, because of the nature of the pathological and clinical characteristics of RP, it can be quite difficult to assess the involvement of CME in the visual impairment of RP patients as compared to that for other retinal vascular diseases.…”

“…We and others reported the long-term surgical outcomes of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) against ERM in RP patients. 6,32,33 The results showed that PPV with internal limiting membrane peeling improves macular morphology, although it does not provide a significant improvement of visual acuity or metamorphopsia. The prevention of ERM formation or progression will thus be required to prevent vision loss due to macular complications in RP.…”

“…According to previous studies, the most effective therapies seem to be acetazolamide and corticosteroids. [8][9][10][11][12] Intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide has already been used in different retinal pathological conditions complicated by CME in their clinical development. 13 The purpose of our study was to evaluate the anatomical and visual results of treatment with intravitreal triamcinolone injections in patients with CME secondary to RP.…”
