VLE of Carbon Dioxide-Loaded Aqueous Potassium Salt of L-Histidine Solutions as a Green Solvent for Carbon Dioxide Capture: Experimental Data and Modelling

Abstract: In this study, vapour-liquid equilibrium of CO2-loaded aqueous potassium salt of L-histidine was studied for a wide range of temperature (313.15–353.15 K), pressure (150–4000 kPa), and solvent concentrations (1–2.5 molar). The experimental results show that L-histidine has an excellent absorptive capacity for carbon dioxide. When compared to conventional solvent (monoethanolamine) and amino acid salt (potassium L-lysinate) at similar process conditions, L-histidine has superior absorption capacity. Moreover, m… Show more

“…[12,13] In search for biobased alternatives amino acids and their salts have been investigated. [14][15][16][17] Their applicability in reversible carbon capture has been demonstrated with higher reaction rates and CO 2 -loading for the respective potassium salts as compared to the neutral amino acids. [17][18][19] Scrubbing solutions based on amino acid salts were applied already at pilot plant scale in for the PostCap TM technology.…”

“…The availability of reliable and accurate information on carbon dioxide equilibrium solubility in aqueous solutions of AAS is of paramount importance to proper design gas treating units. In this area, the literature offers a variety of works mainly based on Kent-Eisenberg (KE) correlation [12][13][14][15][16][17][18] , with ideal mixture assumption. This framework makes Kent-Eisenberg regressions unfit for extrapolation.…”
