Volatile Composition and Antibacterial Activity of Leaves of Chorisia Speciosa

Abstract: Abstract. In this study, volatile composition of leaves of Chorisia speciosa was studied first time. The oil was extracted by microwave-assisted oil extraction and constituents were separated and characterized by gas chromatography - mass spectrometry. A yield of 0.21% was obtained and a total of 25 constituents were identified. Most dominating constituents were: caryophyllene (32.26 %), bicyclogermacrene (9.88 %), humulene (9.26 %), α-selinene (9.18 %) and β-elemene (8.06 %). The anti-bacterial activity of vo… Show more

“…C. speciosa is also capable of producing essential oils, which, after being obtained from the leaves, were identified through GC-MS as major components: caryophyllene (32.26 %), bicyclogermacrene (9.88 %), humulene (9.26%), αselinene (9.18 %), and β-elemene (8.06 %) (Kausar et al, 2020).…”

“…Because of fertile lands, these countries have diversity in plants of medicinal importance, and a variety of medicinal plants are grown and harvested. Although, many plants have been studied, however, there are numerous other plants either uninvestigated or have rare literature on them, and hence, there is a great need to explore their essential oil composition and medicinal properties especially antimicrobial activity [4][5][6] .…”
