Volatile Compounds in Fruits of Peucedanum cervaria (Lap.) L.

Abstract: The volatile compounds from Peucedanum cervaria (Lap.) L. were obtained by hydrodistillation (HD) and headspace solid-phase microextraction techniques (HS-SPME), and then analyzed by GC/MS methods. The composition of samples from a botanical garden was compared with plants collected in the wild. The main compounds of the essential oils of P. cervaria were identified as alpha-pinene, sabinene, and beta-pinene (more than 80% of oil). The content of beta-myrcene, limonene+beta-phellandrene, and germacrene D was h… Show more

“…Limonene had a characteristic flavour of citrus and formed by cyclization of a neryl carbocation from geranyl pyrophosphate [65]. In the literature limonene was reported as a strong microbial and anticancer [66][67] together that of menthol. The low odour threshold values of aldehydes compared to alcohols explain the important role of these compounds in characteristic flavor of cactus pear even in low concentrations.…”

“…Botanical extracts from the liverwort Scapania aspera and citrus essential oil vapor from Peucedanum cervaria are good candidates for SPME in vitro exploration [28-30]. These extracts can be detected by SPME coupled with GC/MS.…”

“…MICs of all synthesized compounds for eight reference strains, including the Gram‐positive bacteria ( Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, and Micrococcus luteus ATCC 10240) and Gram‐negative bacteria ( Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13883, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027, and Proteus mirabilis ATCC 12453) were assessed by the micro‐dilution broth method according to Skalicka et al 25. Briefly, the stock solutions of the synthesized compounds were made in DMSO (Sigma).…”
