“…Essential oils are comprised of volatile, aromatic compounds, and will be less concentrated over time in plant matter. Because of reported variation in nepetalactone concentration in essential oil analysis of catnip (Ibrahim and El Din, 1999;Malizia et al, 1996;Pappas, 2001), oil content in each treatment could not be accurately calculated on the basis of the detected nepetalactone concentrations only in this experiment. Quality assurance specifications from a Midwest herb cooperative include a minimum 3 mg g −1 (oil content in leaves and flowers, but no standards for nepetalactone have been developed; FNP, 2000).…”
