Volatile Oil Profile of Prickly Ash (Zanthoxylum) Pericarps from Different Locations in China

Abstract: Volatile oils of prickly ash (Zanthoxylum) pericarps have various potential biological functions with considerable relevance to food, pharmacological, and industrial applications. The volatile profile of oils extracted from prickly ash pericarps obtained from 72 plantations in China was determined by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Several chemometric analyses were used to better understand the volatile oil profile differences among different pericarps and to determine the key factors that affected g… Show more

“…First, the walnut samples from 72 origins were separated into three groups (Group I, Group II, and Group III). Although NMDS, UMAP, HCA, and PCA were all unsupervised, HCA and PCA were linear models, but NMDS and UMAP were nonlinear models [ 17 , 31 , 32 ]. The classification results of NMDS, UMAP, and PCA were different from those of HCA due to the diverse operational forms.…”

“…In particular, the content of linalyl acetate in the B group was signifcantly lower than that in the other groups, in which precursors linalool and acetic acid had correspondingly low levels. Among them, linalool mostly originated from ingredients such as Capsicum, and Prickly Ash [14][15][16]. It was worth noting that the content of eucalyptol in the B group was signifcantly higher than that in the other groups, which originated from some individual plants and with strong antibacterial activity against food-borne pathogens [17].…”

“…Although at different computing costs between t-SNE and UMAP, both techniques integrating principal components of genotype data were previously applied to large datasets (e.g., [Diaz-Papkovich et al, 2020]), providing a more comprehensive view of inferring population genetic structure in plants (Fu et al, 2022; Ma et al, 2021), invertebrates ( Anopheles gambiae 1000 Genomes Consortium, 2020; Schmidt et al, 2020, 2021; Simon et al, 2021), and extensively in humans (Černý et al, 2023; Chyleński et al, 2019; Diaz-Papkovich et al, 2019; Halldorsson et al, 2022; Margaryan et al, 2020; Sengupta et al, 2021; Sohail et al, 2023). Interestingly, despite being available for several years, t-SNE and UMAP have not been widely adopted in population genomics research for non-human vertebrates.…”
