Voltammetric detection of sumatriptan in the presence of naproxen using Fe3O4@ZIF-8 nanoparticles modified screen printed graphite electrode

Abstract: A novel electrochemical sensing platform was designed and prepared for the simultaneous detection of sumatriptan and naproxen by exploiting the prowess of the Fe3O4@ZIF-8 nanoparticles (NPs); as-synthesized Fe3O4@ZIF-8 NPs were characterized by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy and thermal gravimetric analysis. The immobilized Fe3O4@ZIF-8 NPs on a screen printed … Show more

“…Modifications include hybridizing or compositing transition-metal oxide dichalcogenides with carbonaceous compounds, as well as entering metals that can simplify the transfer of electrons to the electrocatalytic active sites. For example, for many years, magnetite nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 NPs) have been attracting researchers scientifically and technologically, because of certain properties, such as larger surface area, acceptable biocompatibility, stronger superparamagnetism, simplified preparation process, and lower level of toxicity. …”

“…Based on Table 2, the performance of our proposed electrochemical electrode for sensing sumatriptan and naproxen displayed a comparable linear range and better detection limit and sensitivity when comparing with the other methods [6,[46][47][48][49][50][51]. Accordingly, as-fabricated sensor is potentially able to determine the trace amounts of studied drugs in various media.…”

“…This combination was not much better than the effect of sumatriptan alone, but much better than that of mere naproxen. [6] Naproxen, or 6methoxy-α-methyl-2-naphthaleneacetic acid, as one of the derivatives of propionic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with extensively applied to manage pain and discomfort arising from inflammatory and rheumatic disorders. [7] Concomitant use of naproxen and sumatriptan has been reported to be associated with a complication called serotonin syndrome.…”

“…In the past decade, some specific efforts have been made to design effective magnetic nanoparticles instead of immobilized precious metals on mesoporous silica materials 1,2 . In catalytic studies, the recovery and reusability of the catalyst due to its adaptability to environmental concerns are important features of the catalytic process that has received much attention in recent years [3][4][5][6][7] . The recovery and reusability of catalysts is an important challenge in modern research because the employed catalysts are often very cost-effective or the obtained products are often very valuable from the economical and medicinal points of view [8][9][10] .…”
