Voxel-wise analysis of dynamic 18F-FET PET: a novel approach for non-invasive glioma characterisation

Abstract: BackgroundGlioma grading with dynamic 18F-FET PET (0–40 min p.i.) is typically performed by analysing the mean time-activity curve of the entire tumour or a suspicious area within a heterogeneous tumour. This work aimed to ensure a reader-independent glioma characterisation and identification of aggressive sub-volumes by performing a voxel-based analysis with diagnostically relevant kinetic and static 18F-FET PET parameters. One hundred sixty-two patients with a newly diagnosed glioma classified according to hi… Show more

“…Of the remarkable progress in advanced molecular profiling and genomic characterization in brain tumors, particularly in gliomas, was the revision of the classification and management of gliomas toward molecular profiling and genomic characterization by WHO in 2016 (1). Vomacka and colleagues (26) have intended to ascertain a readerindependent glioma detection and characterization of aggressive sub-component through a voxel-wise analysis of diagnostically-related static and kinetic 18 F-FET PET values. 162 subjects with newly diagnosed gliomas were enrolled and were separated into groups upon histologic, genetic, and molecular characteristics.…”

“…There have been previous reports of voxel-wise analysis in dynamic acquisitions of amino-acid PET imaging in gliomas [34][35][36]. But the Li et al study differs from these previous investigations because it evaluates the textural features of TTP parametric images, i.e.…”

“…In this context, it will be essential to assess the relevance of the different hotspots detectable within the various modalities, and semiquantitative parametric maps taking into account dynamic PET and MRI information could provide further important insights, which have proven relevance for e.g. glioma classification [54].…”
