Water-conserving mining influencing factors identification and weight determination in northwest China

Abstract: Water-conserving mining is an effective way to alleviate the contradiction between fragile ecological environment and high-intensity coal mining in the arid and semi-arid region of northwest China. It needs to consider the engineering and geological conditions, hydrogeological conditions and mining methods of coal seams. From the three aspects, this paper systematically analyzes the influencing factors and establishes an identification model with multi-level structures. The model includes three primary factors… Show more

“…Undersaturated coal reservoirs may produce water mainly for a substantial period of time until desorption pressure is reached (Lyubarskii and Ivanov 1989;Boltenko 2013;Smith et al 2019). And then the coal reservoirs produce water mostly and little CBM and exhibit single-phase water flowing performances (Vicki and Paul 2002;Clarkson et al 2007;Liu et al 2017;Fan et al 2019). Therefore, the bottom-hole pressures are affected by well-head pressure, pressure drops of CBM column and water column in producing wellbores for single-phase water flow.…”

“…In view of the early warning and prevention of floor water inrush from mining above confined aquifer, accurate calculation of floor failure depth is the key, and accurate description of the stress distribution caused by mining is a prerequisite [29,30]. Based on the stress distribution of 41503 working face in Shandong Huatai Coal Mine, China, this study established a mechanical model in the semiinfinite body with the distributed load on the upper boundary (induced by mining) and the uniformly distributed load on the lower boundary (induced by confined aquifer) to calculate the stress in any point in the floor.…”

“…The west of China is abundant in coal resources, with a weak ecological environment. Protecting water resources is particularly important as water is the material basis for supporting regional ecological environment and economic and social development (Wang et al 2010;Fan et al 2019). However, in recent years, massive exploitation of coal has brought in serious environment problems to the area, such as ground surface damages caused by mine subsidence (Chang et al 2018).…”

“…During the past three decades, a plenty of field investigations, theoretical research, and engineering practices on water conservation mining have been implemented and documented. The water-retaining coal mining technology is aiming at protecting ecosystems (Fan 2017), which researches geological conditions identification (Li et al 2019a, b), aquifer stability control (Li et al 2018;Fan et al 2019), and water and ecological constraints (Cheng et al 2010;Ma et al 2019). Based on the theory of waterretaining coal mining, a groundwater monitoring network has been established for large-scale coal production bases in the northwest of China and a geological environment carrying capacity research system has been built (Sun et al 2019a;Fan et al 2020).…”
