Waveform Design for Dual-Function Radar-Communication System With Golay Block Coding

Abstract: In view of the defects that high range side lobes and high peak-to-average power radio (PAPR) in radar and communication integrated systems based on traditional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), a co-designed OFDM waveform based on Golay block coding for joint radar-communication system is proposed in this paper. The communication information is coded into Golay complementary sequences by Reed-Muller codes, which can not only reduce the PAPR of the system, but also can improve the error correc… Show more

“…The OFDM signal is a superposition of modulation symbols over all the subcarriers. A self-disarrange block coding method is proposed to reduce PAPR [101]. Firstly, Golay sequences are applied to encode the information bits to obtain an encoded packet.…”

“…ISAC signals based on phase coding have been studied extensively. The main phase coded sequences include pseudorandom sequences [12]- [14], chaotic sequences [15], complete complementary codes [16] and Golay sequences [17], [18]. Hu et al applied random sequences to design ISAC signals satisfying the requirements of sensing and communication [12].…”

“…[17] compared the phase coded sequences and discoverd that Golay sequences restrict the peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of ISAC signal with the increase of the number of subcarriers. [18] applied Reed Muller codes to encode random communication bits into Golay sequences, which not only reduces the PAPR of ISAC signal, but also improves the error detection and correction capability of communication. Considering the coding efficiency, PAPR, bit error rate, etc., the Golay sequences are chosen as the coding sequences in this paper.…”

“…OFDM waveforms with low autocorrelation and low PAPR have been derived under spectral constraints through the Gerchberg-Saxton (GS) algorithm in [19]. To reduce the PAPR of RadCom waveforms, a co-design OFDM waveform design based on a self-disarrange Golay block coding algorithm has been proposed in [20]. Furthermore, [21] investigated an OFDM-Chirp waveform which obtains PAPR about 6 dB lower than that of traditional OFDM.…”
