Wavelet-Based Entropy Measures to Characterize Two-Dimensional Fractional Brownian Fields

Abstract: The aim of this work was to extend the results of Perez et al. (Physica A (2006), 365 (2), 282–288) to the two-dimensional (2D) fractional Brownian field. In particular, we defined Shannon entropy using the wavelet spectrum from which the Hurst exponent is estimated by the regression of the logarithm of the square coefficients over the levels of resolutions. Using the same methodology. we also defined two other entropies in 2D: Tsallis and the Rényi entropies. A simulation study was performed for showing the a… Show more

“…The wavelet coherence seems to be a good candidate measure to quantify the change of behavior in the evolution of the pandemics. It could be expected in a further work a COVID-19 time series analysis using wavelet entropy in a two-dimensional context [18].…”

“…Given a time series, the wavelet analysis performs a transformation that is sensitive to time and frequency. First, one fixes an orthogonal discrete wavelet basis [3,17,9,4,18]. By performing an adequate transformation, the time series is written as a linear combination in that basis.…”

“…Shannon entropy is a classical and effective method to measure the uncertainty of information [ 21 , 22 , 23 ]. Shannon entropy has been used in many fields such as interpreting the information in atomic states expressed for a Ni-like isoelectronic sequence [ 24 ], measuring the characteristics of two-dimensional fractional Brownian fields [ 25 ], and encrypting an image based on entropy analysis and a chaotic system [ 26 ]. After obtaining the two crowd attributes, i.e., the number of pedestrians and the distribution uniformity of a crowd, the mapping rules between crowd attributes and safety status can be established to evaluate the safety status of the crowd.…”
