Welding trajectory reconstruction based on the Intelligent Space concept

Abstract: Superflexible robot programming reduces the profitable batch sizes of industrial robots. The paper presents a new way to determine the trajectory for welding robots based on the Intelligent Space concept. The system uses two cameras and edge detection with other image processing algorithms to find the welding path in the image. The three dimensional trajectory is obtained by stereo vision; afterwards it is transformed to the actual robot language.

“…Takarics [12] attempted to use the stereo vision technology to program a weld trajectory based on the intelligent space concept using two fixed cameras. The weld seam is recognized in two images by edge detection algorithms and the path trajectory was generated by the 3D reconstruction from both images.…”

“…This gives rise to difficulties, errors and even failures of the processing of weld seam images. However, intelligent recognition algorithms, as discussed by Mehrdad Bahrami-Samani, Maryam Agahi and S. Ali A. Moosavian [26], Béla Takarics, Péter T. Szemes, Gyula Németh, and Péter Koro ndi [28], can eliminate some of these negative effects. As an additional benefit, intelligent recognition algorithms are an effective way to improve recognition accuracy and increase image processing performance.…”
