“…Another recently published case of canine cutaneous mucinosis described a solitary, mass‐like lesion with low to focally moderate numbers of uniform mast cells and low numbers of spindle cells on cytologic evaluation 8 . Histopathologic evaluation of a tissue biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of cutaneous mucinosis 8 .…”

“…Another recently published case of canine cutaneous mucinosis described a solitary, mass‐like lesion with low to focally moderate numbers of uniform mast cells and low numbers of spindle cells on cytologic evaluation 8 . Histopathologic evaluation of a tissue biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of cutaneous mucinosis 8 . In contrast, the patient in this reported case presented with multiple, diffuse, and nodular skin lesions with low numbers of scattered spindled cells, eosinophils, and neutrophils embedded in a mucinous background without substantial numbers of well‐granulated mast cells.…”

“…Cutaneous mucinosis was described for the first time in seven Shar-Peis that presented asymptomatic nodules, papules, or plaques on the skin or oral mucosa and an excess accumulation of mucin within the dermis or submucosa [91]. Immunohistochemical techniques revealed the sulphated acid glycosaminoglycans in mast cell granules and other mast cell subtypes [92,93]. An analysis of those with mucinosis revealed a high serum concentration of hyaluronic acid, the main component of mucin [94].…”
