When Model Driven Engineering meets virtual reality: Feedback from application to the Collaviz framework

Abstract: Despite the increasing use of 3D Collaborative Virtual Environments (3D CVE), their development is still a cumbersome task. The various concerns to consider (distributed system, 3D graphics, etc.) complexify the development as well as the evolution of CVEs. Software engineering recently proposed methods and tools to ease the development process of complex software systems. Among them, Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) considers models as first-class entities. A model is an abstraction of a specific aspect of the … Show more

“…Yet, these requirements follow the recommendations that can be found in the literature. Indeed, our will to provide an high-level interaction model is in accordance with the statement for systems of model in [20], the statement for splitting interaction behaviour from event behaviour in [18] or the statement for focusing more on the behaviour of the shared virtual objects than on 3D graphics management or distribution and synchronisation issues in [7].…”

“…In the literature, we can find several strategies for software and video game development under a model-driven approach [35][36][37][38]. Some of these proposals focus on reducing the number of errors, the time required, and development costs, thua favoring higher productivity [39].…”
