White Grape Pomace Valorization for Remediating Purposes

Abstract: The present investigation focuses on a possible alternative to reduce grape pomace’s negative impact on the environment by exploiting its capacities for wastewater remediation. Therefore, three directions are followed: (1) the characterization of white grape byproducts’ antioxidant and antiradical properties; (2) the determination of organophosphorus compound concentration that might be present in the samples; and (3) the evaluation of the possible use for wastewater remediation. The grape pomace was used for … Show more

“…Overall, a direct correlation can be observed between the antioxidant capacity, total polyphenols content and total flavonoid content of the investigated extracts as well a notable antioxidant activity compared to the internal standard used (IC 50 = 14.43 μg/mL for gallic acid). The obtained results confirm the bioactive potential of some grape by-products (hydroalcoholic extracts) derived from white grape varieties [119][120][121][122].…”

“…Grape marc extracts can be used in the treatment of liquid effluents due to their antioxidant properties [83]. The applicability of these extracts is also being explored in Materials Engineering, such as in the development of natural dyes for fabric and as an additive in the formulation of active films and membranes [84-85].…”
