Wideband circularly polarized his backed fan‐shaped antenna with directional patterns covering L1‐L5 GPS bands

Abstract: A wideband circularly polarized (CP) fan-shaped antenna employing a sequential phase feed network (SPFN) covering L1 to L5 global positioning system (GPS) bands is presented. The antenna geometry consists of two crossed bow-tie shaped dipoles with four arms which offers bidirectional CP radiation. A SPFN feeds dipole arms with equal amplitudes and 08, 908, 1808 and 2708 phase values.

“…According to (Kumar et al, 2017), the CP antenna offers steering flexibility between the transmitter and receiver in addition to mitigating the effects of multipath fading. Widely used navigation systems such as BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), Galileo, Global Positioning System (GPS), Global Navigation Satellite System, and Quasi-Zenith Satellite System use L-band right-handed circular polarization (RHCP) antennas for their operation (Babakhani et al, 2017). The L band (1-2 GHz) is divided into five sub-bands: L1 (1575.42 MHz), L2 (1227.6 MHz), L3 (1381.05 MHz), L4 (1379.913 MHz) and L5 (1176.45 MHz) for various operations of GPS (Mishra et al, 2020).…”

“…CP antennas can reduce multipath fading effects and improve the flexibility in orientation of transmitting and receiving terminals [1, 2]. Some of the widely used navigation systems such as Global Positioning System (GPS), GLONASS, Galileo, Bei Dou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), and Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) make use of L -band (1–2 GHz) antennas with right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) [3, 4]. Based on the type of system, the L -band is further divided into many sub-bands: L5 (1176.45 MHz), L2 (1227.6 MHz), L4 (1379.913 MHz), L3 (1381.05 MHz), and L1 (1575.42 MHz) with ±2% bandwidth requirement.…”
