Willingness to provide informal care to older adults in Germany: a discrete choice experiment

Abstract: As the German population is continually aging and the majority of older adults still wish to ‘age in place’, the need for informal care provided by family and friends will correspondingly continue to increase. In addition, while the need for formal (professional) care services is also likely to increase, the supply already does not meet the demand in Germany today. “…For the first measure, we described the LCA analysis on the human capital and circular dimensions through the formal requirements of class indicators, based on base case descriptions, by considering the implications of the Bayesian information test (BIC), the entropy term, the likelihood ratio test (LMR-LRT), and the bootstrap ratio test (BLRT). The general requirements for determining an excellently indexed LCA model is a BIC criterion within the minimum value and a higher entropy projection [53].…”

“…In many countries, informal care is preferred for a number of reasons (Wang et al, 2022), including enabling the cared for person to age in place (de Jong et al, 2022), providing greater socialisation and improved wellbeing, and for reducing budgetary expenditures for providing formal care via the health and social care infrastructure (Bremer et al, 2017). In Global South countries, informal care is very common; however for different reasons.…”
